“The Family that adopted me”

Oyeyemi & I are members of the vibrant Covenant Christian Centre (C3), we also belong to the same department in church; the Choir (C4).

Sometime in April last year, Oyeyemi walked up to me, she said her mum will be fifty years old (50) in May. Nothing elaborate, the family will be going to the cinema to watch a movie after which they will eat dinner. She requested that I should be present to take pictures of the outing.

It was a beautiful sunny sunday afternoon in May, 2011. I met with the family at the Silverbird Galleria Victoria Island, Lagos.

Oyeyemi’s parents and siblings welcomed me pleasantly, I immediately felt at home with this loving family. They took ice cream & snacks while waiting for the movie time & tickets. Her parents seized the opportunity by engaging me in a conversation, “I hope you wouldn’t mind getting married to a man from our home-town, we will take care of you” her father said to me. I couldn’t help giggling through-out the conversation. “This family is fun-to-be-with”, I thought to myself…….am loving this 😉

The movie was over in less than 2hrs, we moved on to Four Points by Sheraton for Dinner. We sat in the lobby while Oyeyemi made preparations. By now you should know that I won’t sit in a beautiful lobby like that without pulling stunts 😉 I looked at Mum (The Celebrant) smiled & told her to give me a beautiful smile as radiant as she is, I took her pictures while she posed. Oyeyemi’s mum is pretty, stylish, pleasant, adorable & loving. She’s the definition of a Sweet Mother. If you had to guess her age, you can’t guess right.

We moved to the restaurant where the table was set with delicious & nourished African/Continental dishes. I noticed the way the family related & discussed while they ate, this is a closely knitted family, I said to myself.

After the sumptuous 3 course meal, it was time to cut the cake. Everyone in the restaurant (staff & guests) gathered around the family to sing the birthday song for the Celebrant who smiled radiantly. Awwwwwww, It was so obvious she enjoyed every bit; who wouldn’t want to belong to a family like this. I love this family 😉

On our way out the family decided to take a portrait picture to be framed & serve as a memorial. It was a night to remember 🙂

Oyeyemi’s mum has since then adopted me as a daughter as she checks on me often & has also recommended me to her friends.
