My First Baby

I met Bukky through a school friend of mine – Funke, in February, 2012. About 5 months pregnant at the time, Bukky is friendly, and we automatically hit off as friends. She was shocked when I was introduced to her as a Professional Photographer. She inquired about my photography business and said she would love me to do the photography of her baby’s naming ceremony. Although I had to wait till she delivers the baby, I was excited.

I totally forgot about the meeting, until about 4 months later. I was with a Lebanese client taking pictures of her daughter’s birthday party. I usually don’t pick calls while working, so after the party while going through my phones I missed twelve calls from two “strange numbers”. I called one of the numbers and it turned out to be Bukky. She had delivered a baby boy and the naming was in two days’ time. She wanted to know if I was available to do the photography as discussed 4 months earlier. Yeeeees! I was so excited, I just love photography. 🙂

We decided to produce a photo book & little did I know it was a test of my skills and abilities. The naming ceremony was fixed for thursday 31st, and Sunday 3rd June, 2012 for the reception. On thursday, I took the pictures of the naming ceremony after which there was a photo session for the family. During the photo session I had to give directions on poses to the baby’s parents and siblings (an interesting part of the photo session). Bukky’s parents and family members were so impressed with my “coordinating abilities” that her father couldn’t hide it; he shook hand with me severally saying he was impressed with my job & even called me an expert. (Head swelling) 😉

The reception took place on Sunday; this was done so that colleagues and friends will be able to attend. The party took off on an exciting and fun-filled note with colleagues, friends, church members and extended family relations in attendance. Lots of African dishes to eat and drinks to go round, everyone had fun…. I wasn’t left out and I really enjoyed taking the pictures 🙂

Exactly seven days after the event, the photo book was ready for delivery (mixed feelings). On that day, I met Bukky’s husband and delivered to him the photo book. I sat watching his expression trying to figure out if he was satisfied or not. He looked through the book twice & called his wife to come and see. They discussed the people in the pictures as I waited anxiously for the verdict.

Finally, he cleared his throat, smiled and said, “Yes, I’m impressed with your job, my friend has been calling to find out if the photo book came out nice because he is having a party too. You can get ready to take the pictures of his party in two weeks. He will get in touch with you. Secondly, I want another photo book, you will reproduce and convert our wedding pictures to a book. Thank you so much. Your balance will be forwarded to your account tomorrow”.

Hmmm! How do you think I felt? Take a wild guess?
